Nike Plus
As a reluctant runner, I was very excited when I first heard about the Nike Plus. I am a person who likes to have feedback about how I am doing on a frequent basis. The Nike Plus provides this feedback. The Nike Plus consists of a small chip that was designed to fit in a special Nike shoe that has a place for the chip and another chip that plugs into your Ipod Nano. The chips work together to track your running progress and provide feedback on your goals. Originally, I was skeptical because I don't like Nike running shoes but then was told that you do not have to buy their specific shoes. The Plus will work in your pocket, in your shoe or even velcroed to the outside of your shoe in a key holder. It is triggered by foot strikes.
The first time I tried it I was hooked. I loved being able to set my running goal for the day and then have the voice come over my Ipod to give me a status check on how I was doing. I look forward to having the lady's voice count me down from my final 400 meters to her congratulations message about completing my goal. The first time I heard Lance Armstrong's voice say, "Congratulations, that is your longest run ever", I was thrilled. The constant feedback is a great motivator. The Nike Plus has been one of the best (and cheapest) tools in my training arsenol.
