Even the skeptics must admit that we are already seeing the effects of Global warming and I don't mean the melting of the ice caps.
Unseasonably warm October has made for very slow sales of winter clothes. Many retailers have posted lower then expected or loss for October, to name a few: Wal-Mart, Gap, Sam’s Club, Costco, Victoria’s Secret, Nordstrom, Macy’s.
This leads to what seems to be the slowest Holiday season in years, most of the retailers have adjusted their goals for the 4th quarter and some went to extreme majors to boost sales, for example: Wal-Mart kicked off its holiday pricing earlier then ever, full 3 weeks before “Black Friday”.
For the sort term consumers should be taking advantage of the situation and hold off our holiday buying sprees to the point of retailer’s desperation, I have a feeling we will see post Christmas sales before the holiday this year.
Looking to the future...
will global warming change our seasons so much that the entire release of clothing lines will have to change?
Are we in danger of losing the winter fashion line?
