Every Summer I look for a record that perfectly fits a carefree and fun attitude. Coconut Records seems to have given me an ideal match for this July and August. I’m a big fan of Jason Schwartzman, and I believe founding Coconut Records is the best thing he has ever done. Their debut album, Nighttiming, which came out in 2007, rings of light, airy melodies. Schwartzman’s voice is easy going, and at times surprisingly delicate. His lyrics are simple yet catchy and make for sweet love songs. Both Kirsten Dunst and Zooey Deschanel perform background vocals on the album, and Brandon Boyd offers his fine whistling talent as well. Nighttiming has just the right amount of indie flair with a great summer feel. Bravo to Jason Schwartzman for being a multi-talented singer/songwriter and actor!
