The return of a big hat

As always, fashion designers struggling to innovate so they bring back some retro trends to remind us that even most awkward trend will come back. Same with the big hats. I can understand wearing those in the last century, when everything was big - dresses, hair, accessories. But in today’s multifunctional world it doesn't make any sense. I thought we are going towards simplicity in everything including fashion. So why trying to revive something just for the sake of making the trend cycle?

Why can't today designers think about something really innovative, like adding a new piece of cloth - something between the pants and a skirt, or a dress and a coat, or a one piece suit that you could just wear in 5 seconds in the morning? So take the challenge, and please don't bring back the corsets, again.

I think I did see this in NYFW 2007 and I'm not sure that it doesn't make any sense....perhaps this designer is ahead to some degree and believes that with global warming we'll all need a lot more sun protection :)
