Tokyo-based fashion label Mint Designs - Nao Yagi and Hokuto Katsui - already have a reputation of doing cute, creative outside-the-box clothes. Their label manages to keep the innovation and fun, while being very marketable. Their signature pattern is easily recognizible and use of colors always makes a splash.
Mint's last collection shown at the Tokio fashion week was called "the story of the flying girls 1808"
They share some ideas behind the collection in their interview for PingMag : The year 1808 was during the Meiji era. Nowadays, we get so much information from TV and the internet, but it certainly wasn’t like that 200 years ago. We wanted to express that sense of wonder people must have felt and this romantic dream that science would have held for them. Then, there was still so much of the world that was unknown and every new discovery would have been exciting. We wanted to show that through the motif of the flying machines and balloons.
These young Japanese designers are definitely the ones to watch!
