Jack Johnson's been a favorite of mine since I first bought his album, Brushfire Fairytales. Besides the fact that he hails from the same state as me, his songs always drew me to my best inspirations, his songs silenced any part of me that was homesick and his songs were even the first songs I taught myself on the guitar.
Jack Johnson took his CD in a totally different direction with Sleep Through The Static. It is apparent with the add of Zach Gill on the keyboards and the use of delay effects with an electric guitar. It is also apparent with the melancholy melodies that are throughout the album - he was getting personal. The CD is even dedicated to his cousin, Danny Riley, who died of a brain tumor in late 2007 at the age of 19. He can be heard as a background vocalist on Johnson's first single off the album, "If I Had Eyes."
Jack Johnson is an ambassador of everything that holds true to me. If I could surf all day and die happy, I would. If I could do everything in my part to change what people think about the environment, I'll do it. Jack Johnson is my inspiration. What's yours?

| | | I was just talking about Jack Johnson the other day, having a very similar discussion about how cool his life is, and how genuine his music is to his life. Sleep Through The Static is a great album.
