I wonder if the latest news on Bloomingdale's discontinuing their By Mail Catalogue marks the new are for fashion retailers. PAPERLESS.
The Bloomingdale's By Mail catalogue will be discontinued early next year, and the chain will accelerate enhancements to its Web site. "[Customers'] shopping experience must be brand-right."— Michael Gould, Bloomingdale's Store officials said 17 jobs will be cut. A total of 125 staffers work in Bloomingdale's Direct — comprising Bloomingdale's By Mail and bloomingdales.com. Many in creative, buying and production positions work for both units.
I bet their intentions weren't dictated by GREEN movement, but rather by the fact that more and more shoppers go online, both for purchase and research. Wasting millions of dollars on paper catalogues that get outdated just after being printed doesn't make much sense anymore. I'm glad the retailers are finally realizing that.
