According to the WWD headlines this morning, the retail industry is about to collapse under the tough recession times (and who know's if it's the lowest point?). None of these look promising:
Saks Inc. Reports $31.7M Loss
Target Profits Drop 7.6 Percent
Economy Dampens Teacher B-T-S Spending
But one headline caught my attention striking with contrast to others:
Estee Lauder Profits Up 35.7 Percent
Is it safe to assume that a broke consumer turns to beauty products when has no money to spend on the latest pricey accessories? I think it could make sense assuming most beauty products still cost under $50. We all know a great foundation and the right lipstick shade on your lips can make an unforgettable fashion statement. For once, people might be actually focused on your face instead of your outfit.
Maybe recession times are good to discover our own beauty and not relay on the latest Prada bag to feel good.
What do you think?
