Pratt Institute presented to the fashion world the creative talents of its senior class during the annual Pratt Institute Fashion Show tonight. Sponsored by Cotton Incorporated, the show took place at the trendy Altman Building in Manhattan, with cameo attendee Emmy Rossum, who presented the Annual Fashion Icon award to the legendary Carmen Marc Valvo.
I love students fashion shows for their freedom of expression and freshness, and of course the surprise factor. After all where else you can see a mixture of dominatrix outfits, exotic dancers as runway models, retro inspired suits and oh well Crocs! Yes, I actually did spot a pair of Crocs on the runway, although I must admit they were worn by a 5-year old modeling kids costumes collection.
From this overwhelming fashion spectacle few young talents stood out: Adrianne Waite and her cute pleated dresses, Elise M. Weir with the fabulous hats and menswear inspired suits, Brianna Hegarty for the old world chic, Kate Boucher with glamorous 40s costumes collection and of course the "Best of Show" award winner Yamel Mendoza with the beautifully constructed evening gowns inspired by peacocks. I can hear this name credited on some red carpet by a risk-taker celebrity fashionista.
