"It" Trend: Asymmetric Deconstructed Dresses.

13th Annual Hollywood Awards Gala Ceremony - Press Room

This is one trend that I was curious to see transferring from runway to reality. Asymmetric dresses first showed on the runways few seasons ago, and the trend that started with one shoulder slowly grew into one big experiment in deconstruction, adopted even by mainstream designers. From Michael Kors to Max Azria and Yigal Azroel, designers experimented with shapes and fabric, going from sheer to solid, long to short. Dresses that looked innovative on the runway raised inevitable question - will anyone look good in these creations outside the fashion weeks circle?

Marisa Tomei tried to provide the answer during the 13th annual Hollywood Awards Gala Ceremony last night, and as you can see it wasn't positive. Even in black, the dress didn't make justice to her body by adding few pounds and creating a strange disproportion.

What do you think - should designers go back to the symmetry and leave the experiments to their drawing boards or should they try and make this trend work?

I think she looks great in this dress. Asymmetry works best in black - otherwise clothes look too confusing!
