It looks as if someone in the trends forecasting department succeeded in convincing the shoe designers that audiences forgot by now the 1990 hit "Pretty Woman". Over-the-knee boots were given another chance in our society of pretty women, this time as part of our casual weekend and even office attire.
While originally I laughed at the idea of successful re-branding of the boots, I must admit the styling geniuses at Net-A-Porter managed to put together these flattering looks, which make me actually consider embracing the trend comes fall.
What makes these choices acceptable without looking trashy? Here are few differences you should pay attention to while attempting the look:
1. Tone down the color palette: keep the colors of the entire outfit understated: black, cream and gray will do best. Avoid strong colors, especially hues of red and pink which often are associated with sexuality.
2. Cover up. What adds trashiness to Julia Roberts Pretty Woman look is the fact she pairs the boots with a short mini skirt and a tank. Styled for Fall with opaque tights, longer skirts and jackets, the boots completely change the impression.
3. Avoid patent leather. This material has been a real hit during the last few seasons, and still is. Unfortunately paired with those boots it will make them look flashy, so stick with suede or matte looking leather.
4. Avoid bold jewelry. Even the most expensive statement necklace might make this look cheap - keep it simple and casual. Limit your accessories to a nice over-sized handbag, scarf or belt.
Hope these tips will help to make you consider this trend - after all it's fun try on something new every season. Isn't it?
