The latest sensation from UK is called Lily Allen and she doesn't care what you think about her. Although everyone else thinks to care about what she thinks about them. Her very sincere opinions and expressions seem to be all over the press lately, as well as her MySpace page which is a great source to finding what's on Lily's mind.
Her NYC show was rescheduled about 3 times, but unlike rest of her US tour which was cancelled the show actually did happen last night. I was between the lucky crowd who had a chance to see Lily singing, laughing, smoking on stage, constantly forgetting lyrics of her own songs, cursing, telling stories, bringing fans on stage, almost tripping over her angel-white long summer dress and just being herself. It almost felt like visiting her MySpace page - lots of personal blurbs, great music and lots of confusion.
Lily is obviously an artist at the early stage of her career, when she is still figuring out her stage presence and her singing energy levels. She is at this point where she can cover on her lack of professionalism with some great sweetness and amazingly strong voice. The whole package just works, as long as you know who you are dealing with - an 18 years old that became an instant "it" girl for the music scene, artist that has only 12 songs, but a huge fan base. If she figures out how to put it into solid show she can have an endless career.
I can't wait to see what's next for Lily. I hope she puts more of her energy into her songs rather than her MySpace page, although I'm not sure what's more important today...
