Forget about Britney, Christina, Lindsay, Paris and Nicole, and learn the following names, since they will be occupying the media, at least for the next few weeks:
Alicia Sacramone, Shawn Johnson, Nastia Liukin, Carly Patterson, Natalie Coughlin, Samantha Peszek, Bridget Sloan, Chelsea Memmel, Christine Magnuson, Margaret Hoelzer, and many more.
These new "It" girls don't date rock stars, don't suffer from eating disorders and don't even launch their own clothing lines. They all devoted their lives to one goal - bring home Olympic medals. Their entrance into the media spot is so refreshing, and there are several thing I'd like to thank them for:
1. Showing on TV amazingly healthy female bodies. These girls have muscles and tone, they are strong and beautiful at the same time. I almost wish some of them could walk on NY Fashion Week runways in September and show the world that healthy looking woman can be beautiful too, but I bet it's not on their agenda.
2. Setting an example for all teenage girls out there, who spend their days posting sexy photos on MySpace. It's refreshing to see so many of 16-years-olds competing for Olympic medals.
3. Taking an attention of millions of people from Britney, Lindsay and Paris; and causing them to google their names, lives and achievements. Such a needed break!
What's left to see is for how long the public attention will stay with the new "It" girls before it jumps back on the "Britney crazy watch". I hope at least until the VMA's...
