Ok so the biggest party of the year for my industry is coming up... Being the Tom-Boy Grrl that I am, I had to solisite the help of a friend in the know, THE miss Yuil Ziv. With her expertise we did a lovely and much needed tour around Soho to find me an outfit. This party is the AICP award show, held at the MOMA in New York, and I will have to go walk around and catch up with eveyone in the industry.. So I needed a dress that I feel comfortable in but is also dressy enough to pass for the "artsy" version of the black tie. (Basically meaning that a super nice cocktail dress will do, gown type thing is a litte over kill). So with this in mind we took to the shops!! First stop was the ever lovely and kinda my style cool Betsy Johnson's. Here you can see I tried on quite a few little numbers. There was this really pretty black sequence shorter dress, I actually liked this one quite a bit. It even matched the totally rad shoes that the fashion consultant (ie. store girl) told me to wear to try out the dresses with. ( how nice of her) In really looking at it however, Miss Ziv suggessted that one must be really careful with the sequences, it is really hit or miss here apparently. You either look great, or perhaps all those extra sequences are really just adding a heavyness that is heavely cheesey. Ok fine ... moving on. Next I tried on this super fancy and somewhat sexy lace longer dress. It was so pretty because it had roses of lace all over it, and where the lace showed through there was a pretty greenish silk or I could have choosen the cream rose ( how fitting ) color. Unfortunately, even though the dress was rather amazing.. It was rather fitting, like "Hi this IS MY body, type of outfit" not really super comfortable for talking it up with the industry peps for me. Oh wells, so on to the next store. BCBG's we went, after a quick tour into Intermix with no avail. Even though I saw a few dresses there that I thought were nice becasue of the color, like deep blue... My close more fashion "Forward" friend Miss Ziv, decided it was time I tried on a little forward myself. So I embarked upon some Fashion Forward, MOD style numbers. Now don't get me wrong, I like the idea of cool black and white dresses, but when I saw these dresses on the racks, I was like no way, these are not for me. However, upon trying them on, I was like "Yuli you know how to pick them!" I mean they did look pretty cool on, and they also are super artsy mod "IN", which, especially considering the event is at the Modern Museum of Art, might as well be "MoD". So all and all I liked the dresses here, but they were also kinda heavy material which made me feel like , well, kind of a curtain. Not super flattering, but at least I would be a conversation piece .. humm have to keep looking ... But I'm definitely getting closer to understanding all that is out there. Sometimes you gotta keep trying on new different things before the right one comes along.
