Fall 2008 - Nerd Alert

Geek chic is back - and thank goodness it is! As the leaves begin to turn, its time to toss the flip flops to the back of the closet and bundle up for cooler weather. Some of the best looks out there are logical decisions that cannot be missed (and are guaranteed to get straight A's). My picks for Fall 2008 come straight from the classroom and will take you straight to work or play. Wearable fashions with academic twists are in :

  • Chanel caught my eye early this year - summer previews featured the Chanel two-toned tights that have become a relative obsession. Good news, schoolgirls: you can really afford these long-legged stockings, too. A twist on the basic solids from previous seasons these tights aren't quite as busy as they could be - no sparkles, patterns, lace or fishnets here: just clean, crisp lines. Chanel's two tones are the perfect fall accessory - eyecatching, warm, complete with interlocking "C"s at the ankle and wearable with pumps, boots or flats. http://www.vogue.co.uk/news/favourites-of-vogue/080425-chanels-two-tone-tights-.aspx

  • Cole Haan rang in their 80th year with smashing revivals of penny loafers and driving shoes. Nerdy flats are gone - replaced by bold patent leathers and sexy animal skins. This pick for Fall 2008 is a no-brainer now that Cole Haan has paired with Nike technology for comfort.  These shoes are just too cute to boot! My pick : the Trillby Driver Shoes at www.colehaan.com

  • Fashion week highlighted geeky fashion and set the forecast all the way to Spring 2009. Pieces from Michael Kors were sleek, structured and had me pushing up my glasses at the bridge of my nose just to see more. Highlights include tweeds and suits in charcoal and black, cardigans, jackets and old fashioned blouses with fabulous bows. Any academe will look smashing in his cropped jackets and pants. www.michaelkors.com

The sum of this equation balances nerdy schoolgirl styles with clean lines and classic favorites - and these are my picks for Fall 2008. Study hard, everyone!
