Victoria Beckham has just previewed her new high-end dress collection to WWD. The collection features 10 pieces which perfectly match Posh’s own signature style. The dresses are tailored to the body—very formfitting, of course—with sophisticated, shapely, feminine silhouettes. The line is mostly made with fabrics such as georgette silks, fine gazar, basket-weave cotton, with touches of Indian embroidery and hand-sewn beading.
Beckham emphasizes structure as one of her primary inspirations as well as a consistent theme of the collection. She says, “structure enhances the flattering shape of a woman’s silhouette” and incorporated a lot of modern corsetry in the collection. “All corsetry is made for comfort and support with the finest materials…enabling women of all sizes to wear my dresses to create a magnificent silhouette.” This coming from the ultimate skinny bitch! I’ll believe that when I see it, perhaps a few plus size models would strengthen her versatility case.
This will be Posh’s third fashion extension, following her dVb label with jeans and sunglasses, and she hopes to branch out into shoes and bags as well in the future. The label will be under both Victoria Beckham and dVb’s names.
The collection is priced between $600 and $1,400 at wholesale. Retail prices will start at around $1,200. Quite expensive for a celebrity clothing line! I wonder if these very expensive dresses will fare better than her dVb jeans collection…
