Do you remember t.A.T.u? The faux lesbian singing duo from Russia with that controversial girl-on-girl kissing in the rain music video from back in the day. Well, they're back on the radar, and surprisingly on the fashion scene.
Marc Jacobs has chosen the girls of t.A.T.u for his Fall/Winter 2008 campaign in Russia. Surprised that such a prominent designer chose this little old forgotten pop group for his campaign? Let's not forget the campaign is confined to their native Russia and we're talking about Marc Jacobs here, known for his distinctive advertisements, which have recently featured several celebrities, such as Meg White, Victoria Beckham (in a shopping bag!), and M.I.A. (in menswear).
A Marc Jacobs ad is usually intended to be a little offbeat, from the unique models to the quirky sets and props. So I'm interested to see what these two gorgeous girls, a porcelain doll-like redhead and a raven-haired vamp, turn out for the Russian Marc by Marc Jacobs campaign.
Intially, the news of t.A.T.u campaigning Marc Jacobs sounds a little puzzling, but I think we just need to have a little more faith in the eccentric taste that made us adore Marc Jacobs so much in the first place.
