I've been vegan for about 3 years and until recently people had no clue what that term meant. Now veganism, the latest celebrity diet buzz, is infiltrating pop culture, and I'm certainly happy about it! Finally, promotion of a "diet" that's actually healthy! None of this crazy lemonade-cayenne pepper-starve yourself till you're skinny nonsense! A vegan diet simply excludes all animal products, including meat, fish, eggs, milk, cheese, etc.
Some celebrity vegans include Victoria Beckham (who says she "doesn't put any animal produce into her temple"), Alicia Silverstone (who's been photographed wearing sweatshirts that read V-E-G-A-N), and Natalie Portman (who recently debuted a line of vegan shoes for Te Casan) just to name a few! There are plenty more. Did I mention I sat next to supermodel Karolina Kurkova at a vegan restaurant in NYC?!
Skinny Bitch was the book that ignited the explosion of veganism into pop culture and made it sexy. Victoria Beckham helped promote it by flaunting it in front of the paparazzi. It was sold in the well-known celebrity hotspot, trendy Kitson boutique, and it made its way to the New York Times Bestseller List.
So now vegans everywhere are somewhat relieved of the crazy hippie stereotype, thanks to these celebrities advocating their vegan lifestyle. And hopefully it will inspire many more people to become vegan.
As Skinny Bitch points out, veganism is not only healthier for your body, it is also a good way to lose weight. Since cholesterol is found only in animal products, going vegan is the best way to reduce your cholesterol (and that's currently a huge problem here in America). Also, there is less fat and calories in vegan foods (vegetables, tofu, and soy milk products) than their meat and dairy counterparts.
Consider veganism if you want to become more animal and eco friendly (it takes a whole lot of environmental resources to raise livestock for slaughter), improve your health, and become a “skinny bitch”!
Here are some photos of those famous vegan skinny bitches!
