As I prepare "Thank You" cards today, I am overwhelmed by the friendship extended while we fought a nasty little disease, Breast Cancer.
As of today, I am cancer free. This cost me. I had to part with both breasts. Those breasts nursed four babies, defined my femininity, and balanced my, rather large, rear end. Now I look like a pear!
I want to acknowledge:
Pat, Mike, John, Pete, Katey, Jill, and Jenny, who got me to and from the hospital, held me, kissed me, and loved me.
Katey, visited, laughed and cried with me. Then she went to an Oncologist appointment with me.
Sue, who attended every medical appointment, taking notes so I would remember what the surgeon and Oncologist were saying. Sue slept in a chair by my hospital bed on that first awful night. She ran errands, took my temperature, blood pressure, brought prune juice, suppositories, and prayed.
Nancy slept on my lumpy sofa for six long nights. She brought and prepared meals, did the housework, and lifted my spirits with childhood memories and present-day laughs.
Elaine brought chicken booyah and picked up a prescription at the pharmacy. The girls in group sent flowers. Tina gave me earrings and Missy gave me a Serenity bracelet.
Tom cooked pork chops and fish, enough for six. He carried it in in a thermos bag and served five of us.
Scott sent the sweetest note. Many people sent cards, and prayed, and wished me well.
It brings tears of gratitude to my eyes.
Friends and Family are bigger than cancer.
