| | WHITE IS MY FAVORITE COLOR

| | White, some argue, is not a color; it is an absence of color. Pardon me if I don't agree. In fashion, it's a color. I love white. I wear white. I sleep in white and on white. I wrap myself in fluffy white towels and robes. I will only use white toilet paper, buy only white underwear, socks and nightgowns. My car is white. My dog is white. My house is white.Too much? Probably. But I swear by it. Makeup looks better. It's fresh, it's clean. It works. And it's hard to find. There's a lot of us attached to white. Designers please take note....

| | The National Arbor Foundation gives away 10 free trees with membership. Membership is only 15 dollars yearly. You can donate your free trees to anyone you wish so it might be helpful to donate to a Trees For the Future organization. The trees come bare root and are usually small. I plant mine in a group by my pond in an area where they are less likely to be trampled by big gangling household pets (one in particular - my bloodhound Annie). Then when they are strong enough, I can move them to a place where they can stand independent.Just a though...

| | My first thought on learning news of a close niece's pregnancy was not about health, safety, housing, money, or baby showers as would seem normal. My first thought was you're going to need maternity clothes.
Then the visions of the old school stepped in with fabrics that should only be covering couches, hideous smocks with ruching just above the breast area designed to make you look 14 sizes larger; and ugly stretchy pants made of materials that wouldn't disintegrate millions of years in the future.
No matter where you were from, chances were t...

| | My grandmother, Maria, an Italian immigrant died on February 19, 1998, nearly ten years ago. Her face has not faded in my memory nor is it ever likely that it will.
My conversations with her, especially the ones that taught me things to use in life, I can still recite verbatim. Nearly everything I ever learned that turned out to be important in life came from her. Absolutely everything I know about real beauty came from her.
She was two weeks from her ninetieth birthday when she died. Her skin though was somewhere between 25 and 30 nearly fla...
