how to really save television

I have seen this debate go one for ever and it still rings true television has its moments of greatness and now that the writers strike is over (hope the actors aren't next) all network executives are looking on ways to say there empires....here are a few tips.

1.  Diversity- CBS has started to do right after so many wrongs on both there daytime and primetime series.  Remember the end of Neil and Victoria on Young and the Restless back in the mid 90's due to the fans (from where i have to ask) wrote in and said they didn't want to see a black and white couple together.  Shame.  But Cane is an outstanding, well written and casted series about the Duque family (reminds me of my own writings) about the turmoil of being a prospersous family.  Why sugar cane though ( well least it was not drugs).

Color...Ethnicity is splashed on television but can I get more minority leads in shows that are placed in minority cities (New York is not lillie white).  It is so true that the producers of a series may have a actor/actress in mind and the network already has someone else and to get on the air the producer gives in.

It is 2008 and I could see Brandy doing drama.  I can see Rihanna doing a series.  Raven Symone anyone needs a steady gig.  Nia Long could play my older sister in a gay drama about love and life in Chicago.  But you get my point.  I can see a bio pic about Obama on ABC.

2.  Block shows together that will work.  Cashmere Mafia and Big Shots should have worked if paired together.  Now that would have been a hot combo before going to bed.

3.  New writers.  Same all across the board on Daytime and Primetime.  It is like there are no writing programs anymore to find and fund aspiring television writers so the pool is just a few of the talented.   So not fair.  Open that pool back up and I am sure that the networks will find some new talent that are ready to shake things up.

4.  Heather Locklear.  Where is she at?  Stuck on a David Spade vehicle...Yuck.  She is so underused and could have given life to every show on television right now.  I could see her on Cane, I could use her to spice up Lucy Lui on Cahmere Mafia.  I could see her doing comedy of her own. Running a network, a modeling agency, a newspaper.  Anything because she has the guts, the talent, the balls to do it all.

5.  Stop copying SEX IN THE CITY.  Yes it was a great show but every show that is headlined by women is not the next SITC and it undermines the writers, the producers, the actors.  Brooke Shields is great on Lipstick Jungle.  Miranda Otto gives Cashmere the drive it needs to work.  But they are not the fab four.

Can you imagine being in a rock band being compared to The Beattles straight out of the gate?  You will not be as well liked as you would have thought.

The media is always comparing something to something past.  I am not the next Barbara Walters or Aaron Spelling, I am HUdson De Witt Kelly and I have my own voice, my own talent and don't need to be compared to someone else who already set the bar to high for me to reach.  In that's the case never give me an Oscar as I have reached the bar and everything I will do afterwards will not live up to that one moment.

6.  End Reality TV NOW.  I must say I loved the Reah Houswives of Orange County because it was like watching a scripted television program but it's not so it would have to go.  TV is doing to actors what magazines did to models give them nothing to do so why be a member of a card carrying union.

Now on to Daytime.

1.  Stop plastic surgery.  Tell the actors to stop because drama is drama and when you can't move your face because you look like plastic Barbie I can't wish for you to have an Emmy even if the writing is great.  Put it in there contracts, when the actors get mature so does there storylines.  There is nothing wrong with being a MILF (no i didn't say that) but some have gone way to far and it has got to stop.

2.  Stop bring the dead back to life.  Was Taylor Hayes dead on the B&B (okay I do love Taylor) but c'mon you want out of the contract I can do whatever i like to you and I'm not bringing you back.  (unless you are Hunter Tylo).

3.  Evolve.  The characters, the stories, the town, everything in life evolves but not in the fantasy world of Daytime unless you are suddenly a 2 year old SORA's ( Daytime lingo for aged) to a nineteen year old minx.

4.  Hire Adrienne Frantz.  She kills it on Y&R everytime i see her and it is so glad to have her back. She is a nuanced, multi-faceted actress when she feels pain so do you and when she is happy so are you.  She could save every soap.

5.  Stop wasteing Eileen Davidson (Ashley on B&B), Kristina Wagner (Felicia on GH) and so many other talents.  What is going on? Do they cost to much to work? Are they not worth it?  Eileen D saved Days in the 90's and now all I do is see her in a Forrester lab coat sniffing a perfume.  NO WAY.  Kristina was fired, brought back in 2007 and then let go again.  NO WAY.  There women are worth the story, they bring something that there shows need and that is heart.

6.  Stop waiting on Vanessa Marcil.  Brenda Barrett was a great character and now that Las Vegas (NBC) is over don't think you can lure her back for six months and get her an emmy again.  Robin Christopher left because you ruined her minx of a character.  She worked on all three soaps and is needed.  Let Vanessa go to the big screen or go to Y&R and bring back Isabella Brana.

Well this is only my opinion some of you may agree others may not.
