Mr. Big and Carrie never made it to The New York Public Library to say their ‘I Dos’, but, Jill Stuart managed to fill the magnificent venue with the same fantastical romanticism one would have imagined for the fictitious couple. Inspired by iconic women of music, in particular, French singer Françoise Hardy, Stuart’s Fall/Winter collection fused her love for ethereal charm with the serious mood of the times.
The collection was “a mix of hard and soft,” explains Stuart. We noticed. Dresses came adorned in airy ruffle upon ruffle and toned in muted lavenders, winter whites and powder pinks. Yet, the contrast of tailored jackets and black leather pants gave this girlie girl some muscle. The standouts clearly were the accessories, especially the wide brim hats topped with luscious flowers, fully bloomed—A must have for fall.
