See? This is what happens when people lose their minds: Expensive gym shorts are birthed. Much like crop tops and florals, gym shorts seem to be making their way back into fashion. However, they’ve never actually went away, but when was the last time you went for those faded gray Soffee shorts — which you faithfully wore everyday in gym class — while getting dressed to go out with your girlfriends? Yeah, not likely.
And yet, both Jade Jagger and the Olsen twins — under their Elizabeth & James line — have attempted to ressurect the 80s must-have for ridiculous prices, to say the least. Two hundred dollars for a pair of %100 cotton hot pants? Nine hundred dollars for a pair of bedazzled mesh shorts? Say what?
The whole point of pairing a piece of inexpensive athletic wear with a high-fashion number is for the effortless I-didn’t-spend-hours-strategically-mapping-out-my-outfit feel that we hope is the essence of everything we wear. These shorts defeat the purpose. So, am I cheap (no) or is this too much? What do you think?
