Your government stimulus check may not be the only free entity lurking in your mailbox this month.

MAC cosmetics will be sending out postcards with a gloriously faded sunset and the phrase “California Dreamin” written in some cheesy cursive font.

Those select few who receive the little love notes from the beauty giant can then take them to a local MAC store/counter and they’ll give you a free limited-edition lipstick, which bares the same name boldly printed on the postcard.

My only qualm would be with the title of the product: Do people still envision surfing and warm beaches when they think of California? Because I’m pretty sure the LA County Jail, scripted reality shows, and Pinkbery come to mind.

The latter, in particular, because the chain stores are kind of like treasured landmarks in the state. Maybe the next MAC freebie could be called green tea with strawberry?
