FIT Senior Class Fashion Show
The senior class’ annual fashion show at the Fashion Institute of Technology took place today in front of an audience of press, faculty, and interested parties. The show was split into several collections encompassing sportswear, knitwear, childrenswear, ‘special occasion’ and intimate apparel.
The best thing about student fashion shows is the refreshing outlook on fashion and the surprise that can come from seeing a garment so beautiful you would have thought it straight from the runway in Paris.
Almost all the clothes had a distinctly modern and edgy feel, essential to the progression of fashion. The solid, bold patterns lent a feel of 60’s mod that was both retro and contemporary. Some pieces were more literal in their approach, like an “aqua reflecting corset with lace up back and fiber optic skirt” by Elif Irfan.
Some of the other stand out pieces included a brown leather bustier dress by Alessia Baldi, a black and silver lace duchess gown by Karen Rozenboim, and a stunning chiffon swirl dress with hand-painted ombre satin ruffles by Lisa Le.
Without a doubt, the childrenswear collection was the most fun—little girls in doll-like couture dresses trotted out with pouty faces to the delight of the audience, who seemed more enraptured by the children than the clothes.
It truly felt like we were experiencing the future of fashion—these graduates will go on to be the next Michael Kors—a notable alumnus of FIT himself.
