Dina Bar-El05/09/2008 03:24 PM | Dina Bar-El
My first encounter with Dina Bar-El and her eponymous label was when I was working at the Intermezzo Trade Show earlier this week. Our ‘booth’ was right next to hers and I couldn’t help but be captivated by her presence.
She was the ultimate sales woman. From 8:30 AM until 6:00 each day, Dina sold the hell out of her clothes to the swarm of buyers constantly surrounding her. Dina’s collection is absolutely stunning. Made mostly with Korean silks and satin, her dresses are both glamorous and sexy.
I had the pleasure of being introduced to Dina on the last day and she was gracious enough to show me the collection, pulling pieces to explain how they were made and which famous people were seen wearing them.
Possibly the key to Dina’s huge success has been that she offers couture quality at a price often a third of her competitors, such as Diane Von Furstenberg or Michael Kors. The clothes are all made in America with the best European fabrics.
After the tragic loss of her daughter, Dina was ready to give up fashion all together. Whereas she had previous designed ready to wear separates, Dina decided to focus only dresses in memory of her daughter, who had originally introduced the idea of bringing dresses into the line. The dresses are the epitome of chic femininity that any confident woman would love.
Dina’s designs have attracted quite the star following, from Victoria Beckham to Dancing with the Stars and American Idol, there is rarely a time when her pieces aren’t being photographed.
