Sangira is the perfect drink to have at home during the summer.
Although I am more of a mojito person when ordering out, it takes longer to prepare and really can’t just sit patiently in the refrigerator.
It has a lot of versions, and can be as fancy or simple as you want.
My basic recipe for Sangria is:
1 bottle of red wine
½ cup of orange juice
¼ cup of orange liquor (optional)
1 green granny smith apple
1 orange
2 small red ripe plums
Mix all together in a pretty pitcher and refrigerate for 2-4 hours before your first toast. Will be good for 4-5 days if kept cold (assuming it’ll last)
Alcohol tips:
- Try not to use any wine you wouldn’t drink as is. A Cabernet Sauvignon or Bordeaux will work great; Merlot might be a bit too dry.
- As for the orange liquor, you can skip it if you don’t have at home but it’ll add a nice twist to the drink. You can go with fine Grand Marnier or the basic triple sec.
Fruit tips:
- I like the green apples since they add a tart flavor and hold their shape in liquid for a long time.
- Cut the orange into thin rounds if you want to make it fancy, or peel it and cut into segments if you want to munch on it later.
- You can always add some more fruit like strawberries or blackberries, when in season.
- Try no to have too many fruit since most sink into the bottom of the pitcher.
